The Jaiñtia Coordination Committee for Reservation Policy (JCCRP) has decided to hold three sit-in demonstrations in the region to press for review of the job reservation policy.
The committee comprises of the Synjuk Waheh Chnong Jowai, Synjuk Waheh Chnong Ri Jaiñtia, pressure groups– Jaiñtia Student Union (JSU), Jaiñtia Youth Federation (JYF), Jaiñtia Student Movement (JSM), East Jaiñtia National Council (EJNC).
Chairman of the committee, Jersom Shylla at a press conference in Jowai today said the government should review and revamp the outdated State reservation policy of 1972 as now with the growing number of population and educated youth in the State the reservation policy seems more like a discrimination and bias against some tribes.
He said the sit-in demonstration will be held in Jowai on May 29, May 31 at Khliehriat and June 2 at Amlarem.
JCCRP Sambormi Lyngdoh said three autonomous district councils were constituted in the state and hence the government should review the policy that was created in 1972 based on the respective populations of the Garo and Khasi-Jaiñtia communities. He said at present the population of the Khasi-Jaiñtia community has grown compared to the Garos.
