Two suspected drug peddlers were detained in East Jaintia Hills on Thursday in possession of 65.32g of heroin.
At around 8:30pm in the evening, credible information was received that two drug peddlers were travelling in an Assam-registered Tata truck (AS 28 AC 0492) with the suspected contraband concealed inside the vehicle moving from Kalian towards Khliehriat.
Police set up roadblocks at Byndihati petrol pump and stopped the truck at around 9:45pm loaded with cement with the two suspects, who were identified as Jaydar Ali (34) and Sanidul Islam (20). Both are from Barpeta in Assam.
The heroin was concealed in six soap boxes, one plastic tobacco container a vial. A mobile phone and Rs 500 in cash were found in the possession of Ali.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against the duo at Khliehriat police station. Investigations are on to trace forward and backward linkages.
