Synshar Kupar Roy Lyngdoh Thabah, the United Democratic Party’s (UDP) candidate for the deferred Sohiong Assembly seat election, filed his nomination papers today.
Polling in Sohiong had been postponed due to the death of the UDP’s original candidate and former MLA HDR Lyngdoh one week before the scheduled February 27 polls.
As a result, the Election Commission of India deferred Sohiong’s election until May 10.
Thabah, who is HDR’s nephew, was accompanied by UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh and supporters to file his papers.
Candidates have until April 20 to file their nominations. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place the following day and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature has been set as April 24. Counting of votes will take place on May 13.
The other candidates who have already filed their nominations are incumbent MLA Samlin Malngiang (National People’s Party), S Osborne Kharjana (Congress), Sandondor Ryntathiang (Hill State People’s Democratic Party), Seraph Eric Kharbuki (Bharatiya Janata Party) and Stodingstar Thabah (Trinamool Congress).
