Marking the culmination of the Purvottar Bharat Parikrama, the Indian Army’s pan-North East car rally, Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan today flagged in the rally at Umroi Military Station.
The rally reached its final destination after travelling across nine states over 20 days. It was flagged off by Army Commander HQ Eastern Command, Lt Gen RP Kalita, on March 22, 2023 from Fort William in Kolkata and covered approximately 4,000km over 22 days, passing through scenic routes and arduous terrain.
The rally visited various war memorials, conducted motivational talks at schools and colleges and explored many other historical locations of the North East.
Chauhan felicitated the team leader, Brig KM Shende and Subedar Major and Honorary Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav and lauded the efforts of the army in the service of the nation. He also highlighted the superlative coordination between the army and civil administration in Meghalaya and commended the efforts of the army to assist ex-servicemen and veterans.
The car rally was aimed at promoting national unity, camaraderie and national integration among the people of the North East, bringing together different sections of society and building a ‘New India’ that is stronger and more prosperous. It also focused on enhancing awareness about the army and the Agniveer programme.
The event was conducted in collaboration with the North Eastern Council under the Department of North Eastern Region as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
