Action taken by the 4th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya led to the arrest of five Bangladeshi migrants who were in India illegally.
Two of those detained were nabbed by the BSF, while another three were arrested by Railway Police in Guwahati.
Acting on a specific tip-off, BSF personnel yesterday apprehended two Bangladeshis – Rahul Amin (37) and Md Abdul Kasim (36) – near Dawki bridge. An FIR was lodged and both were handed over to Dawki police station for further legal action.
Interrogation revealed that the pair had entered India with the intention to live here and assist other Bangladeshi nationals to illegally cross into India.
Amin revealed that he was proceeding to Guwahati to receive three other compatriots who were coming from Jammu and Kashmir by train.
Based on this, the BSF shared information with Railway Police and all three Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended at Guwahati Railway Station.
