The Khasi Students Union (KSU) commemorated the Khasi National Awakening Day with the release of a song to pay tribute to freedom fighter, U Tirot Sing.
The new music single is entitled, ‘U Tirot Sing’ by the local metal band Dymbur featuring noted musician, Desmond Rimaki Sun and supported by the KSU.
Every year the KSU observes April 4 as the day to “awaken” the Khasi-Jaintia communities to fight for a free, secure, clean and peaceful co-existence between sons of the soil and more so, towards a sense of belonging and ownership of land of which the forefathers and freedom fighters like U Tirot Sing Syiem had fought for through the war against the British in 1829 to achieve victory and freedom for the indigenous people of Meghalaya.
The function was held at the Jaiaw Shyiap Lumpyllon Community Hall, Shillong where leaders of the union, members and invitees were present.
