The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will soon meet with the state government on the pending Khasi Social Custom of Clan Administration Bill 2022 and other issues.
The decision was taken at the KHADC executive committee meeting held today.
Chief Executive Member Titosstarwell Chyne said that the EC has sought an appointment with District Council Affairs Minister Prestone Tynsong and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in the coming week.
The clan bill had first been passed by the KHADC in 2018 but the Governor withheld consent and returned the bill. The council then made amendments and resubmitted the bill but final consent has yet to be obtained.
Chyne also said that the EC members will discuss the issue of Scheduled Tribe certificates, which he feels KHADC should issue and not the state government.
Meanwhile, the EC meeting discussed the various pending schemes that need to be implemented.
Informing that a tied scheme of approximately Rs 18 crore that the KHADC received before the state election is yet to be implemented, the CEM said that the EC wants to follow up with the state government on the funds for the health scheme that the council has yet to receive from last year.
“There are also letters that we need to send to concerned ministries in Delhi related to the untied scheme of 2021-22 and 2022-23 to the tune of Rs 40-50 crore that the KHADC is yet to get,” he added.
Other matters included the apparent need for a selection committee to speed up the report on the inheritance bill that will again be tabled in the next KHADC session and the preparation for a full budget for the 2023-24 financial year as only a vote of account was presented earlier this month.
