As part of World Tuberculosis Month, the State Tuberculosis Office, Meghalaya organised an awareness programme for the students of Seng Khasi Secondary School, Smit on March 6.
Tracy Kharkamni, State Coordinator highlighted the objectives of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme of eliminating TB by 2025. She said that it is important to come together and support TB communities and end stigma and discrimination. On this day, the students also pledge together for a TB Free Meghalaya.
State TB Champion Andrew Marbaniang who was also present in the programme shared his testimony about his success story and how he has completely been cured of TB. He also gave the credits to the Health Department for providing the necessary treatment free of charge.
Wanrap Kharumnuid, Senior Treatment Supervisor sensitised the students about Tuberculosis. He also explains on the types of TB which consists of Pulmonary and Extra Pulmonary TB, its signs and symptoms, treatment and prevention.
Kharumnuid further encouraged the students to raise such awareness in their family and community so that everyone will be sensitised about TB.
The programme was followed by the rally and street play performed by the Bachelor of Social Works students of Women’s College, Shillong. The topic of the play was ‘Awareness on Tuberculosis: Let’s support for a TB Free Meghalaya’.
