As part of the celebration of International Women’s Day, SPARK today organised special programmes for underprivileged women in three villages as well as in a slum.

The programmes were organised at Mawlong Umsawli village, Iewduh slum, Mawlynrei Traishnong village and Rangmen Nongsder village with more than 200 women participating in it.

The aim of the programmes was to provide a special platform to these women from less privileged families who are quite unaware of the unique and precious role they play in the building up of the family, society as well as the nation as a whole. These women remain the unsung heroes and hardly receive any platform where their valuable contributions are acknowledged and appreciated.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day was “Digital Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality” and based on the same, SPARK initiated this special programme to honour and appreciate the women’s contribution towards development of the society and the importance of women empowerment for the well being of the nation as a whole.

The president of SPARK, Shima Modak also sensitised them about women rights thereby building up their capacity to fight against increasing instances of crime against women and the measures to protect themselves from such crimes.

Modak thereafter handed over papers and pens to each of the women and enrolled them in the education as the first step towards acquainting them on digital innovation and technology for gender equality leading to their development and empowerment to a brighter and positive life.

The day also consisted of celebrating the success of the women in day to day life from their efforts, concern and hard work towards the well being of their family and taking care of children to their unique contributions in the development of the society and nation as a whole.

SPARK, as being ran, by a single woman on individual initiative and its journey from scrap to achieving awards at the national to international levels and being able to touch the lives of thousands of distressed and deprived population, was also celebrated during the day with the only objective to encourage others to follow the path and believe that nothing is impossible if one is determined towards one’s aim.

“As a whole, the programme brought light into the lives of women on this special occasion thereby leading them to a brighter living with respect and dignity,” said a press release issued by SPARK.
