Two mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters from Meghalaya, Donbestar Syiemlieh and Amos Nongrang, won gold medals at the Club War 21 tournament in Assam recently.
Syiemlieh, of South West Khasi Hills, competed in the 56kg flyweight category where he went up against fighters from Nagaland and Uttarakhand on his way to taking the title.
There were six fighters from Meghalaya in all, with Nongrang and Syiemlieh the gold medallists. The other four were Jonibor Tron, Kenedy Mawiong, Wankyrpang Dame Suchiang, Cleverwell Pariong. All are from Ground and Pound MMA Gym. Cores Marwein was their instructor.
