Phulbari TMC candidate S G Esmatur Mominin has urged the Election Commission of India to conduct an inquiry into the attack at Charbatapara village last night.
Terming the act as a “shameful act of barbarism”, Mominin alleged that the attack on party workers was allegedly perpetrated by NPP workers led by the Shyamnagar MDC Habibur Zaman.
“I condemn the brutal attack orchestrated by the NPP workers. I learned that the Shyamnagar MDC provoked this incident and is the perpetrator of the crime. I request the ECI conduct a proper inquiry to reveal the truth and unearth what happened. This is a very shocking and serious matter. I hope the authorities will take appropriate action and ensure fair and free elections,” Mominin said.
While an FIR lodged by one Nozim Hussain alleged that the procession led by Zaman stopped near his house and pelted stones, the DEO reported that the reason for the clash was that a few TMC supporters hit the vehicle of Zaman and his supporters while passing through the village.
However according Mominin, who was present during the clash, stated that the NPP had taken out a huge procession and abruptly started pelting stones and bricks targeting the house they were having a party meeting. “The police witnessed how the NPP workers vandalised the premises and exhibited terror mongering,” he said.
Mominin further alleged that the NPP has started peddling fake propaganda against the TMC using media outlets. “I got to know from news reports that TMC workers attacked NPP. The allegations that are labelled against TMC workers are false, baseless and fabricated. Thousands of people who had witnessed the brutal behaviour of NPP workers,” he stated.
Stating that the NPP is irked by the overwhelming support and unwavering confidence shown by the people towards Meghalaya TMC he said such attacks will not be able to stop the people-centric vision of the party.
