East Jaiñtia Hills police arrested a resident of Mizoram and recovered over 1 kilogram of heroin in a major bust.
The accused identified as Albert Lalro Piang (32) was nabbed by a police team at a petrol pump in Lad Rymbai in the wee hours today, police said.
According to Superintendent of Police, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa based on intelligence input, a nigh long operation was carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Banraplang Jyrwa and staff from the Lad Rymbai Outpost.
The team detected 100 soap boxes containing 1040 grams of heroin, one mobile phone and cash of Rs 2,550 from the possession of the accused.
Dhanoa said a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and an investigation is underway to trace the source and destination of the narcotics.
