The Indian Army and NEIGRIHMS Shillong has signed a memorandum of agreement yesterday to extend multi-specialty medical cover under the aegis of the Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme to veterans.
NEIGRIHMS Director Dr. Nalin Mehta said through the landmark initiative, the institute which is one the premier multispecialty and super specialty medical facilities for the North Eastern states, will alleviate the difficulties faced by veteran soldiers of Meghalaya who will not need to undergo hardships of travel to other states.
Major General Rajesh Kumar Jha, Officiating GOC 101 Area conveyed his appreciation to all involved in realizing this initiative, which, he said, will help Ex-servicemen of the entire area in getting the benefit of reliable medical support.
He also thanked central organisation like ECHS and Eastern Command for their support for the agreement, which he said, will facilitate cashless and capless medical treatment for ESM beneficiaries and dependents of ECHS in Meghalaya to include Assam Rifles ECHS members at CGHS rates.
It was highlighted that a help centre has been established at NEIGRIHMS which will extend assistance to the veterans. The arrangement is a first-of-its-kind for Meghalaya and will make a seminal difference to veteran care efforts of Indian Army in the Northeast.
