Cabinet minister and local MLA Kyrmen Shylla inaugurated an artificial turf at Khliehriat’s football ground today.
The turf was funded by the District Mineral Foundation Trust, a non-profit statutory trust that is mandated for every district in the country affected by mining-related operations and which should work for the interest and benefit of persons and areas affected by mining-related operations.
Shylla was accompanied by the East Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, who is also the president of the district sports association.
Following the opening ceremony, a friendly match was played between government officials and district sports enthusiasts.
Shylla also assured his constituents that if he is re-elected at the forthcoming elections, he will ensure that one turf is provided for the people every five years.
This is the first artificial turf in East Jaiñtia Hills and Shylla hoped that it will help more talented footballers develop their skills and go on to bigger things.
