Former cabinet minister Deborah Marak has received a boost in her race to return as the MLA for Williamnagar after several local BJP leaders quit to support her.
Marcuise Marak of the National People’s Party (NPP) is the sitting MLA. Deborah finished a poor third in the 2018 election.
On Saturday, three BJP leaders – Gerald Marak, Denybirth Momin and Greatwell Sangma – joined the Congress Party with their supporters in Deborah’s presence.
Acknowledging what they called the people-friendly works of previous Congress governments, the trio said that these have led them to quit the BJP.
