The Hynñiewtrep Youths Council (HYC) has expressed grave misgivings over the timetable for the hiring of doctors by the state government.
There are 400 posts for both Medical & Health Officers (M&HO) and Junior Specialists but how many of each was not mentioned in the advertisement.
In the original advert on December 2, applications were invited to be submitted by December 10. After scrutiny of the applications, a rejection list will be published and candidates will have five days to file an appeal against rejection.
However, in an addendum on December 8, the examination date was set for December 14, thereby reducing the time allotted for rejected candidates to appeal.
If applications are open until December 10 and exam set for December 14, this gives little to no time for the publication of a rejection list and appeal against rejection. “This is a totally absurd and illogical way of conducting the entire recruitment process,” HYC general secretary Roy Kupar Synrem said in a letter to the Meghalaya Medical Services Recruitment Board Chairman, Dr Joram Beda. “The whole process of recruitment is being viewed with a suspicious eye keeping in mind the short period given to the applicants to complete the procedure and the addendum providing only three days to file representation in case of any complaints or rejections.”
All this haste could compromise the quality of those doctors who end up being recruited, the pressure group feared.
Synrem demanded that the examination date be pushed back to give enough time for rejected candidates to appeal. However, he then met with Dr Beda but was told that there is no option but to move ahead as scheduled as they have to complete the process before the MCC.
