The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance pertaining to the killing of five citizens in Mukroh.
The Commission has directed the Chief Secretary Donald P Wahlang to submit a detailed report into the incident within 15 days of receipt of the notice.
Five Meghalayans were killed in the shooting, with one Assam forest personnel also shot dead on November 22.
It may be mentioned that the villagers who died at the Mukroh firing have been identified as Thal Shadap (45), Nikasi Dhar (65), Sik Talang (55), Tal Nartiang (40) and Chirup Sumer (40). The dead Assam forest guard has been identified as Bidya Singh Lehte.
