The Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union has decided to halt petroleum supply to Meghalaya until the government assures safety and security of its crew.
This comes in the wake of firing incident at Mukroh in West Jaiñtia Hills district where six people were killed on November 22 that also led to burning of vehicles and restrictions to Assam vehicles to cross from Assam into Meghalaya.
A letter from the union to the senior depot manager of HPCL said Ri Bhoi, Khasi and Jaintia Hills are in an abnormal situation and its members are afraid to go to the areas to supply petroleum products, which warrants safety and security of its members.
“We have decided not to take any load from today onwards until and unless the Government of Meghalaya assure us the safety and security of T/T crews (oil and gas) and if any incident occurs the Meghalaya government will take the responsibility,” the union said.
