The MDC for Tikrikilla (Naguapara), Dormonath Sangma, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after quitting the National People’s Party (NPP), it was announced today.
Some 700 other people from Garo Hills joined the saffron party today.
The other prominent personalities included NPP’s Ampati block chairman Drozil Sangma, Congress Party block secretary Dular Sarkar, and NPP leader from Mendipathar Pulin Hato.
Those who received them into the party were the BJP’s Meghalaya in-charge and national vice-president, M Chuba Ao, national secretary, Rituraj Sinha, state president Ernest Mawrie, BJP media convener from Assam, Rupam Goswami, and BJP Meghalaya general secretary Thomas Mawrie.
Sinha welcomed them to the party and assured them that the party will provide them a platform to serve the people of their respective constituencies and fulfil their aspirations. Ao highlighted the BJP ideology of ‘India First, Party Second, Self Last’. Mawrie also spoke on the occasion and expressed confidence that the BJP was going to form the next government in the state with the support of the people.
While joining, the leaders said that the BJP is the only party that works for the true upliftment of the people and that it is the “pro-people attitude” of the BJP that brought them to the party.
