The court of the Additional District & Session Judge, District Council West Garo Hills has sentenced one Tengsal D Sangma to life imprisonment for murder.
Delivering its verdict, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh from the convict.
Tengsal was involved in the murder of Persist Ch Sangma on March 29, 2012 at Elysian Restaurant located at Tura Bazar.
According to police, Tengsal had assaulted Persist, his wife Pringchi D. Sangma and her brother-in-law Najib Sangma at the restaurant. While the victim tried to protect his wife, Tengsal stabbed him on the chest with a long knife.
The victim who was rushed to Tura Civil Hospital was declared brought dead.
Investigation into the case was conducted by UBSI Bishnu Thapa and chargesheet was submitted on June 5, 2012.
