Trinamool Congress has accused the State government of fabricating a false Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) success story in Rongjeng Imasamdrop village in East Garo Hills district when the project was never completed.
TMC West Garo Hills district convenor, Richard Mrong today said that the government has played the people of the village with its falsities on the JJM implementation.
“The villagers were not only robbed of drinking water but the village Sordar of Imsamdrop had himself accused the PHE department of tricking them into believing the project was completed. The PHE was also accused of forging the signature of the Village Water Sanctioning Committee’s President,” Marak said.
He said PHE Minister, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar instead of refuting the claim with valid information he vaguely delayed the authentication of the veracity of the report. “It is utterly pathetic to see a minister waking up from slumber and pledging to inquire into the matter to seek a report from the authorities implementing this project,” he added.
“If this government fails to implement JJM in a village with 37 households, how are they even aiming for 100 per cent completion by the end of 2022? From the current situation, it sounds like a distant dream cooked up by the NPP-led MDA Government for electoral gains” he said.
The party in a press release said its leaders are appalled to witness the lack of awareness and deliberate procrastination coming from the MDA government. “With the completion of only 40.63% of the JJM project, the government deceives the people of Meghalaya by falsely promising to reach 6 lakh households by the end of 2022,” it said.
