Supercare Hospital in Shillong is now accredited under NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers), becoming the only hospital in the state to achieve the prestigious certificate.
The NABH is a constituent board of the Quality Council of India (OCI), set up to establish and operate accreditation programme for health care organisations.
The NABH standards are currently the highest benchmark standard for hospital quality in India and hospital accredited by the board gets international recognition.
Through the certification, patients are the biggest beneficiaries from both the full NABH accreditation and the entry-level certification, as it results in a high quality of care and patient safety. It also benefits the staff of the hospital as it provides for continuous learning, a good working environment, leadership, and above all ownership of clinical processes.
Founder and Managing Director, Dr RS Thangkhiew has expressed deep satisfaction on acquiring NABH accreditation and said this strengthens the vision of Supercare hospital.
“To set the standard in quality healthcare, healing, and comfort” as well as the hospital’s mission: “To provide a responsive healing environment for patients and their families and to improve the quality of life for all members of our community,” he said.
He said the hospital with a dedicated team aims to be a torchbearer in new treatments, methodologies, and philosophies concerning health and health services, while also ensuring that the foundational values of healthcare remain their strength.
The hospital received the NABH Entry-Level certification on October 5, 2021 and then secured the full NABH accreditation on September 29, 2022. This certification is valid up to 30 September, 2026.
According to Supercare Hospital authorities, there are mainly two versions of the standards for allopathic hospitals: the full NABH, suitable for large speciality and tertiary care level hospitals, and entry-level NABH, meant mainly for smaller hospitals that do not have the infrastructure and resources to comply with the full NABH.
