The office of the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner in collaboration with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) today organised an electoral outreach programme dubbed Mission UNITED 2.0 (U&I Towards Enrolment) to shake off urban apathy when it comes to elections.
The programme was held at the Dorbar Hall in Umpling. Meghalaya CEO Frederick Roy Kharkongor said that the main objective of the programme is to achieve 100 per cent enrolment and voter turnout.
The department has identified a list of communities where the electoral gap is greater than 25 per cent and these have been chosen for such outreach programmes.
Today’s programme highlighted the need for awareness on enrolment of young voters, educating citizens about the electoral process and the importance of their voting rights.
The event also included an interactive session, where questions were raised on enrolment and information in case of deletion due to deaths. The interaction delved into Aadhaar linkages and how this process should work on a voluntary-mode. The role of the BLOs was also highlighted.
