The All India Bank Officers’ Confederation’s (AIBOC) Meghalaya branch will continue to oppose any move by the central government to privatise public sector banks.
This was stated by AIBOC Meghalaya secretary Davis Lyngdoh today on the occasion of the 38th confederation’s foundation day.
Lyngdoh shed light on the history of the trade union movement in the banking industry in India and added that the developments in the trade union activities of workmen organisations imparted the further need for the formation of officers’ associations in all banks.
AIBOC traces its history to the mid-1960s when a small band of bank officers began officers’ associations in a few state-owned banks. The All India Confederation of Bank Officers’ Organisations (AICOBOO) was then born in 1972, with AIBOC taking shape itself on October 6, 1985.
AIBOC, Lyngdoh said, is also fully aware of its commitment to society and has undertaken various social services through its units, such as adoption of villages for imparting educational facilities to the poor, establishment of schools, relief to victims of natural calamities, organisation of blood donation camps, encouragement of co-operatives and benevolent funds, among other social initiatives.
