The University of Science Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has grand ambitions to become a hub of healthcare in the state when its PA Sangma International Medical College and Hospital is ready to launch.
The mega dream project, of ERD Foundation in Guwahati and USTM founder Mahbubul Hoque, had its foundation stone laid today by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, the son of the late PA Sangma, former Lok Sabha Speaker.
Plans for the facility include a 200-bed super specialty hospital with a range of technological facilities that will lead to cutting-edge research. Hospital care will be made completely free for all poor patients and for all residents of Meghalaya, Hoque said.
USTM also hopes that it will draw in patients and students from neighbouring ASEAN countries, with initial focus on the region’s immediate neighbours – Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.
The medical college and hospital will also have air ambulance facilities and a network of ambulance services that will cover nearby Guwahati and Shillong.
“USTM will organise national and international seminars and conferences in the healthcare sector. We welcome the support and suggestions of all healthcare experts from North East India in our mission,” Hoque said.
