The ICAR – Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ri-Bhoi, organised a ‘Plant Health Clinic on Spices and Winter Vegetable Crops’ today at Umktieh village.
The programme was attended by 40 beneficiaries of farmers’ clubs supported by FXB India Suraksha, an NGO based out of Bhoirymbong.
Utpal Barua, of the KVK, briefed farmers about the importance of plant health clinics in acquiring knowledge and identifying plant diseases and pests for proper management at the right stage to minimise economic loss and reduce pathogen load for the next crop.
Tasvina R Borah, senior scientist plant pathology at ICAR NEH, interacted with the farmers on pest and disease identification and management of ginger, french bean, chilli, cole crops, vegetable nursery, etc. She gave hands-on training on Bordeaux paste and mixture preparations, application of organic materials like Trichoderma, Pseudomonas, Neem Oil, NSKE, Copper Oxy Chloride to control various diseases caused by fungus, bacteria, white fly, mites, white grubs, etc.
The programme ended with a diagnostic visit to a nearby ginger field where participants were shown pests and diseases under the field condition and phytosanitary measures to be taken for better and effective organic management. During the programme various organic plant protection chemicals were distributed.
