Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that his government has shown its seriousness on the issue of Inner Line Permit (ILP) by passing a resolution in the Assembly on December 19, 2019 to urge the Central government to implement it in the State.
Sangma was replying to a zero hour notice moved by Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem in the Assembly today.
The chief minister said that the resolution passed by the House December 19, 2019 was sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs for its consideration.
He also said that the State government again wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the matter on November 17, 2020.
Sangma informed the House that on February 20, 2020 a delegation of MLAs from the State met Shah in New Delhi to discuss the matter.
“The delegation was informed that the Central government is examining the resolution passed by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and it was assured that the rights of the tribal people of the state will not be diluted,” he said.
“During the visit of the Union Home Minister to the State on February 23, 2021, a memorandum was submitted by the State government in which the matter relating to the demand for implementation of ILP in the State is also included along with other demands. The State of Meghalaya is awaiting the response of the Government of India on the matter,” Sangma said.
The chief minister also informed the House that during the 69th Plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council, attended by the Union Home Minister on January 23 and 24, NGOs of the State met Shah and conveyed to him the importance of implementing ILP in the State.
