A bust of Sngap Sing Syiem, a renowned freedom fighter and tribal chief of Hima Maharam was unveiled in Mawkyrwat today.
MDC of the area, Carness Sohshang unveiled the bust at the premises of the Sngap Syiem College, named after the freedom fighter in the presence of principal of the college, Dr. K.K. Nongsiej, members of the Alumni Association, teachers, students and parents.
Speaking at the function Sohshang said it is hoped that the bust of the great freedom fighter will serve as a source of inspiration and motivation for generations to come and be a constant reminder on the need to preserve and protect the land and its people.
The programme also saw the launch of a ramp for persons with disabilities sanctioned by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council at Rs 4 lakh.
