The sudden crackdown by police against a group of drunken brawlers near the Lawmali graveyard here has earned a lot of praise from residents living close to the area.
It may be mentioned that yesterday night at around 8 pm there was a fight between two groups of drunken youths in the area.
Police who arrived later managed to nab at least eight youth who were drinking and bawling in the area.
Police also punished the culprits by making them do frog jumps on the bridge adjacent to Riatsamthiah and Jaiaw Shyiap – Lumpyllon.
The video of the drunken youths doing frog jumps also went viral on social media.
Residents of Jaiaw Shyiap – Lumpyllon and Riatsamthiah have praised the police for the action taken against the drunken brawlers.
According to the residents, brawls by drunken youths have occurred frequently in the area during night time resulting in a lot of inconvenience and insecurity to local residents and passers-by.
They also urged the police to conduct regular patrolling in the area especially during night time from 7 pm to 1 am along the stretch from Jingthang Briew bridge to Lumpyllon-Riatsamthiah bridge in order to curb such anti-social activities.
The residents also said that besides strong intelligence, police should also arrest and book the culprits under the law in order to deter such acts of lawlessness in the area.
