After nearly a month of being in police lock-up, arrested State BJP vice president Bernard Marak has today been sent to jail for 14 days.
The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Tura passed the order today remanding Marak to 14-day judicial custody in the case related to recovery of explosives from his farmhouse known as Rimpu Bagan near Tura.
The court has also denied bail to Marak in the case related to running of prostitution racket at his farmhouse.
Marak was booked under Immoral Trafficking Act 1956, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 and the Explosives Substances Act 1908.
The State BJP leader was arrested on July 27 by Uttar Pradesh police from Hapur district.
Ever since he was brought to Tura on July 28, Marak had been under the custody of Tura police.
Police had on July 22 police raided his farmhouse and rescued six minors. 73 people including 24 females were arrested from the spot. Five of them are in judicial custody while the others got bail. Police said the farmhouse was being run as a brothel.
Meanwhile, 15 persons who were arrested from the farmhouse have petitioned the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) accusing police of arbitrary arrest and ill-treatment. They also demanded action against investigating officer Mamata Hajong and West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivekananda Singh Rathore.
