In order to avoid further “public resentment”, the state government must take the district councils onboard during the border negotiations with Assam, KHADC Chief Executive Member Titosstarwell Chyne said today.
Speaking to reporters, Chyne said that he wants to make his stand clear so that in future the Meghalaya government should take the district council into confidence in any boundary talks with Assam.
“In this way, we can also invite all the concerned Himas and see that the boundary negotiations are resolved with understanding,” he said, adding that no one is opposed to resolving the dispute between the two states but it should be done the right way and to the contentment of all.
The CEM said that he does not want to see the people resentful against the deal, as was and continues to be the case with the Phase 1 agreement, which was signed earlier this year.
