The Khasi Disabilities Association (KDA) has demanded that the state government consider relaxing the age limit for people with disabilities by five years, from 42 to 47.
The demand was made in a letter to the Chief Minister. The association is seeking a meeting with state government representatives by September 5 to discuss this and other matters.
Meanwhile, the KDA has also recently written to the Social Welfare Minister and requested him to sanction financial aid through an existing state scheme.
It observed that there are disabled persons who have applied for the scheme since 2020 from the office of the Child Development Project Officer but no sanction has been made. The association also appealed for the government to consider new applications made since 2020 as the disabled would greatly benefit from the money.
