The people of Western Ri-Bhoi have been plagued by frequent power cuts in the past four days that have severely disrupted everyday life.
Najim Kharmalki, president of the Western Ri-Bhoi Dorbar and Rangbah Shnong of Patharkhmah, said today that the situation has not only affected the general public but also businesses and the health centres in Patharkhmah, Warmawsaw and Jirang.
He lambasted the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL) and alleged that rampant corruption is to blame for the situation. Whenever Kharmalki has complained to the power utility, the reason for the electricity supply disruption invariably comes back as “inclement weather” no matter what season it is.
