Around 4,600 talented youngsters were identified through the State Talent Identification programme, which concluded here today after travelling to each of Meghalaya’s 12 districts.
The programme was organised by the Meghalaya State Olympic Association, supported by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and implemented by Edge10 under the supervision of Ian Campbell, a former Australian Olympian.
Speaking to reporters today, MSOA working president John F Kharshiing said that the talent search was a great success, with athletes from all 12 districts of the state given a chance to perform the pre-set tests.
“We found 4,600 talents with 27,000 tests carried out and 50 youngsters tested in the ‘super elite’ and ‘elite’ categories,” Kharshiing said.
The four tests were 20m sprint, 10m ladder run, compass drill and vertical jump.
Now that all the tests are complete, Edge10 will submit an analysis report to the MSOA and state government indicating the names of the performers with highest potential and its recommendations.
Based on the results of the tests, the MSOA and DSYA can identify which athletes are suited to which sports and the youngsters can then be guided accordingly.
