The court of the Special Judge (POCSO) has sentenced two men in separate cases of sexual assault on minors in East Khasi Hills district.
In the first case, one Betstarling Basan was sentenced to jail for sexual assault on a minor. The FIR against the crime committed by him was lodged on November 21, 2012 at Laban police station.
Following investigation, police filed the charge-sheet on July 15, 2013.
“The convict Betstarling Basan was sentenced to Imprisonment for 15 years and a fine of Rs. 1 lakh only U/S 376 (2)(j) of IPC, imprisonment for 1 year U/S 323 IPC, imprisonment for five years and a fine of Rs. 10,000 U/S 354 IPC, imprisonment for five years and fine of Rs 10,000 U/S 354B IPC, imprisonment for 6 years and fine of Rs. 10,000 U/S 506 IPC IPC, imprisonment for 5 years and fine of Rs. 10,000 U/S 8 of the POCSO Act 2012,” a press release said.
In default of payment of fine the convict shall undergo another month of imprisonment for each default, the court said.
Another case is that of a crime committed in 2017. The court found Rajingstar Thabah guilty and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for 18 years.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 and in default he has to undergo simple imprisonment for another three months for offence punishable under section 6 of POCSO Act.
A FIR against Thabah was lodged on November 3, 2017 at Mawngap police station for sexual assault on a 5.10 year-old minor.
