The driver of a vehicle that crashed into an electricity pole was charged Rs 60,000 by the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL) for its repair but it was never replaced, Right to Information (RTI) activist Disparsing Rani alleged today.
It was in 2019 that the driver of a Tata Sumo struck the pole at Laimer and damaged it.
“The driver was charged more than Rs 60,000 for the damage to the pole. He had to sell his Sumo in pieces just to be able to pay the amount,” Rani claimed.
However, despite making the payment, the pole has not been replaced, he added, asking, “Where has the money gone and what will happen if this [damaged] pole causes some untoward incident?”
