SSA teachers have decided to continue with their protest until they achieve enhancement and release of their five month pending salaries.
Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) president, Aristotle Rymbai said that they have agreed to cooperate with the government with regards to their other two demands till August.
The demand includes increasing the state budget provision for the SSA, moving existing SSA teachers from the state implementation society to the Education Department on a regular basis and as per the provisions of the Right to Education Act norms.
The decision was taken after the association leaders officials met with Additional Chief Secretary of Education, DP Wahlang today.
“We have decided to continue with our sit-in protest to secure the release of our pending salaries because we are not satisfied with the explanation,” he said, adding that the State Finance Department is yet to release approximately Rs. 44 crores.
“For the current financial year the delay is with central government and we were informed that the centre has not released the salaries to any states across the country since last year,” he said.
On the enhancement of salary, Rymbai said they were informed that the department is still examining the matter due to financial crisis.
