After an absolute furore to begin with, the United Democratic Party (UDP) has apparently forgiven Sanbor Shullai of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over what the UDP termed as insulting behaviour by him towards its president and Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh.
Shullai, a cabinet minister, had been publicly condemned by the UDP and even reprimanded by the Chief Minister for the way he interrupted Lyngdoh while the latter addressed Draupadi Murmu, who is running to be the next President of India, during a function in Ri-Bhoi earlier this month.
Lyngdoh was apparently speaking about atrocities carried out against Christians in the country when Shullai butted in. After the storm broke a couple of days later, he apologised for any unintentional hurt he may have caused.
The UDP had demanded that action be taken against Shullai, both by the BJP and by the Chief Minister. However, no official complaint was ever received by the saffron party from its ally the UDP, which has apparently dropped the issue.
