The Border Security Force (BSF) has handed over 50 stray cattle of the neighbouring country to the Border Guard Bangladesh.
This was done during the last one month to strengthen the harmonious relation between India and Bangladesh, BSF said in a statement today.
“These Bangladeshi cattle had entered Indian territory while grazing in the bordering area of Meghalaya,” the BSF said.
These cattle were detained while conducting patrolling on the international border and the BSF were approached by the BGB on several occasions to release and hand them over these strayed cattle, the BSF added.
BSF officials said that due to some gaps in fencing, Bangladesh livestock often cross over to India and at times damage the crops of Indian farmers.
“BSF plays an important role in restricting movement of the cattle into India and handing them back to Bangladesh authorities thus enhancing the mutual trust and confidence between border guarding forces of both the countries,” officials said.
