The All Meghalaya SSA Teachers Association (AMSSATA) will begin an indefinite sit-in from tomorrow against the failure of the state government to release their salaries since February.
AMSSATA general secretary, Defender S Lamare informed that the association submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister as a reminder over the pending salary issue.
The AMSSATA executive committee had, at a meeting on July 5, taken the decision to begin their sit-in if the government still delayed payment of their salaries. The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers Association (AGHSSATA) will also take part in the protest, Lamare added.
SSA teachers have also not received their arrears for eight months, since 2016-17. Although transferred to SSA teachers’ bank accounts by the state government, the salaries are paid for by the Centre, as the SSA programme is a central one. The state government argues that it does not have the resources to pay SSA teachers until and unless the central government transfers the necessary funds.
