A novel development by a Kanpur-based company should make it simpler to transport and handle Covid-19 samples.
Aavya Life Science recently developed a ‘molecular transport medium’ (MTM) for the collection of Covid-19 samples. With the new medium, samples can be held at room temperature for up to seven days, with no cold chain required during the transportation of samples.
In developing the product, Aavya received Rs 25 lakh as support from the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), an autonomous institution under the central government’s Department of Science and Technology.
A NECTAR press release today said that the MTM has received approval from the Maulana Azad Medical College and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). It can also be used in the collection of other types of virus, such as HPV, swine flu and hospital-acquired infections.
Aavya also received incubation support from BIONEST, IASST Guwahati for the establishment of the research and development unit and manufacturing site. A bio-sampler laboratory was inaugurated today.
