The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the cause and not the solution to the unemployment crisis that is gripping the whole of India, state Congress Party spokesperson Ronnie Lyngdoh has told Highland Post.
He said this in reaction to claims by state BJP leaders that only the saffron outfit can solve the problem of unemployment and bring about development to Meghalaya.
Speaking to HP recently, Lyngdoh said that India’s economy is deteriorating day by day, with high levels of unemployment and now inflation making the situation dire, all of which has come under the tenure of the BJP at the Centre.
“Let those who are claiming that it’s only the BJP that can solve the problems first come up with the employment statistics in BJP-ruled states … and then we will believe them,” Lyngdoh said. “The fact is that inflation is so high that poor and middle class families are finding it hard to even buy essentials and whoever has made such claims (about the BJP) has made himself out to be a joker because the statement does not match reality.”
The Mylliem MDC also slammed the BJP for creating communal disharmony in the country. “There is so much polarisation in the country. Is this a democracy where you cannot even have a peaceful protest against the ruling party?” he asked.
Further questioning the BJP government on the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Lyngdoh queried why the Centre has reduced its budgetary allocation to the scheme.
MGNREGA, which was initiated by the Congress, has saved millions of people from starvation, Lyngdoh claimed, but the BJP-run central government has not paid vendors’ bills for the last two to three years and has cut overall funding for the scheme.
“These are the doings of the BJP government. They can make their political claims but the people are aware of the truth,” he added.
