There has been no communication from the Assam government to Meghalaya on alleged illegal supply of coal to Bangladesh through the state, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said today.
Recently, reports emerged that transportation of coal was allowed through the use of e-way bills from one Jai Maa Enterprise. The CM’s brother and cabinet minister, James PK Sangma, was also linked.
Sangma stated the Meghalaya government ensures that all documentation and paperwork is correct before coal is allowed to be transported. He added that if there are any suspicions or concerns raised by Assam, and if these are communicated officially, Meghalaya will examine them.
However, all the accusations in the current case have been brought to his attention through media reports and not official channels, the Chief Minister said.
On his brother’s claimed involvement, he said that anyone can make allegations or statements but if there are genuine concerns then the government will look into them.
The Meghalaya government has had to weather repeated allegations that senior politicians and civil servants are involved in illegal coal transportation and mining but has always denied these claims.
