The United Democratic Party (UDP) of North Garo Hills has raised concerns for the safety of citizens in the district after a string of kidnappings.
Three such cases were highlighted in a letter the UDP sent to the Deputy Commissioner – of Neha Momin, a resident of Beru Bari village who went missing in April and has not been seen since; 17-year-old Rekilson A Sangma who went missing from Line Ading village on May 22; and Tadingsa R Sangma, who was kidnapped by a gang in broad daylight yesterday but who was released shortly afterwards.
The UDP requested that regular police teams patrol the Bajengdoba area to restore confidence in the public and end the kidnapping menace
It also requested that non-tribal traders from Assam, who the UDP claimed do not possess proper documents, be barred from entering the district.
