The Pynursla unit of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has demanded that the Public Works Department (PWD) Executive Engineer in charge of overseeing the work on the now collapsed dome of the new Assembly building be suspended.
Ransom Sutnga has been criticised for failing to prevent the embarrassing mishap. His ties with the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) have also come under scrutiny.
In a press release today, the TMC Pynursla expressed its “utter dismay” over the collapse of the dome, calling it “embarrassing” and a case of “carelessness” on the part of PWD officials.
The TMC also criticised the contractor selection process and the subcontracting of the work on the project, describing it as “nothing short of abrupt looting, scooting away with public money.”
The release also referred to the apparently dodgy construction of the Inter State Bus Terminus, which previously occupied front page headlines before the Assembly fiasco, saying that the state government and Chief Minister in particular are shielding the engineers and contractors while trying to hide the “omission and commission” of corruption.
