Rambrai Jyrngam MLA Kimfa Sidney Marbaninag is yet to decide whether he will join the National People's Party (NPP) despite claims from MDC Bajop Pyngrope that he will quit the Congress for the ruling party.
Pyngrope, who has already jumped into the arms of the NPP, also said that he will not be contesting the 2023 state elections but will, instead, campaign for NPP candidates.
“There have been many speculations but I am still a Congressman to date and I am yet to decide on the matter,” Marbaniang told Highland Post. He, along with four other Congress MLAs, have been suspended by the party for giving their support to the NPP- led government.
The MLA is in the process of getting feedback from his supporters on what his next political move should be and he will likely announce a decision in the next week or so.
Meanwhile, Pyngrope was of the opinion that Marbaniang will definitely join the NPP.
On his own prospects, he said, "I have decided not to contest the 2023 election but I will work vigorously and support the NPP candidates in Mawthadraishan, Nongstoiñ, Mawshynrut, Rambrai, Mairang and in the rest of West Khasi Hills and Eastern West Khasi Hills.”
