The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) celebrated its one year anniversary here today by reiterating its goal of seeing a separate state for the Khasi-Jaintia people created.
The pressure group was launched on April 3 last year.
Today’s anniversary was attended by the Acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Ainam Manik Syiem, as chief guest.
Syiem congratulated HITO on its journey and encouraged its members to work hand in hand with the Hima for the welfare of the indigenous community.
HITO president Donbok Dkhar said that the organisation was formed with an intention to protect the land and the jaitbynriew. Myntri of Hima Mylliem, Shanborlang Sohtun, urged the group to continue to work for the welfare of the people.
To mark the anniversary, a friendly football match between HITO and the Shillong Press Club was held recently and the trophy was handed over today. SPC general secretary Powell Sohklet and president David Laitphlang were present.
