Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh today said that the new assembly building at Madiangdiang is expected to be inaugurated by September.
The Speaker who chaired a review meeting on the construction work said, “We intend to complete it latest by July, and commissioning and testing will be done in a month time by the end of August,”
During the review meeting, Lyngdoh discussed micro details of the project with department heads of the Public Works Department, Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited, National Informatics Centre, Forests and Environment, amongst others.
Lyngdoh said he was satisfied with the progress of construction work. However, he said “A lot of effort and work needs to be taken care of to ensure that we complete the project as scheduled.”
He said that it was a relief that the crane (only one of its kind in India) used in lifting the fabricated structure for the dome has completed about 75 per cent of the work.
The Speaker further informed that the construction work of the minar, which is the top part of the dome, will begin next week.
He further said that discussions were held with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Finance Department and was positive that the centre would release funds for the construction work.
