Residents of Hima Sohiong have not taken kindly to being called barbaric by the Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
Titosstarwell Chyne said this after a group of Sohiong residents tried to tear down the gate of the KHADC last week. They were locked out of the building as they protested against the incumbent Lyngdoh of Hima Sohiong, Banshemphang Thabah.
Speaking at a press conference today, representatives of the Joint Action Committee of the Khun ki Hajar ka Hima Sohiong said the KHADC was barbaric in not listening to the grievances of the people made against Banshemphang. They blame the Lyngdoh for transferring Nongwah Mawtamur from Hima Sohiong to Hima Jirang. This transfer occurred several years ago and received the nod of the KHADC in 2015.
According to the JAC, the public had only found out about this transfer in 2019 through a Right to Information (RTI) request and they consider it to be illegal.
