National Science Day was celebrated through various programmes in the state today.

The day marks the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian physicist CV Raman on February 28, 1928.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Happy Valley celebrated the day on the school campus with an event inaugurated by the principal, DK Deran. Vice-principal K Ramesh, teachers, staff members and students were present. Students took the initiative towards building a healthy environment and gifted some plants for the plantation drive at the school.

The event was organized by the Science Department and involved science students as volunteers.

Speeches were delivered by Harshawardhan Mandlekar and Arun Kumar Sah. Music teacher Ravindranath demonstrated the association between music and physics, while Sunil Vodela demonstrated eye catching science experiments.  A quiz was also conducted by Preeti Awasthy.

Students’ achievements were also recognised, such as Devanjali Baidya of Class 9 who was selected for the regional level 29th National Children’s Science Congress 2021 for her idea to use expired medicines as fertilisers. Class 7 student Victor Das and Mannath Mondal of Class 8 were selected for an INSPIRE Award of Rs 10,000 for his science project entry in the district level exhibition and project competition.

Meanwhile, an exhibition on topographical mapping was organised by the Survey of India at its Shillong office premises in Malki today.

The theme of this year’s National Science Day is “Integrated Approach in Science & Technology for a Sustainable Future”.

Various activities of the Survey of India, such as digital photogrammetric workstations, modern surveying instruments, computer aided cartography (CAC), demonstration on GPS, remote sensing, importance of maps in our day-to-day life and utilization of drone data for SVAMITVA (Survey of Village Abadi and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) was displayed during the exhibition.

Students from various city schools participated in the event.
